Arthur J. Jankowski, 81, of Whiting passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at home. Born in Norfolk, VA, he resided in Detroit, MI and Butler, NJ before moving to Whiting in 1998.
Art served in the United States Navy from 1961-1967. He proudly served his country and was on three different aircraft carriers during his time of service, The Ranger, The Essex, as well as the Lexington. After his time in the military he became a Paterson Police Officer serving the City of Paterson from 1968-1993. And was a member of The Policeman’s Benevolent Association Local 1. Upon his retirement from the Paterson Police Department he worked as head of security at International Paper in Wayne, NJ several years before moving to South Jersey where he then became employed at the Lakehurst Naval Base as a security guard until 9/11/01. Art was a life-time active member of the Butler VFW Post 8096. Art was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, Whiting.
Art is survived by his loving wife Sandra of fifty-nine years, his son Glen and his wife, Kimberly of Stanhope, his daughter Laura Jankowski of Santa Fe, NM, two sisters, Mary Jankowski, Carol Depa and her husband, John, two grandchildren, Hunter and Jason, and several nephews and nieces. Visitation 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm Monday, November 18, 2024, at DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, 119 Union Ave., Lakehurst. Funeral Mass 10:45am Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 30 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. Interment 1:30pm Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
