With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Frank Dennis Ruff, who left us peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the young age of 71.

Frank was born in Passaic, New Jersey, at St. Mary’s Hospital on October 8, 1954, to Rosina Calamusa and Frank Ruff. He was raised in Elmwood Park, later lived in Lodi, and eventually made his home in Whiting, New Jersey — a place where he found comfort in quiet moments, family, and familiar routines.

Frank worked hard throughout his life and took pride in honest work. He held various jobs, including a hardware store lumber manager, a service station technician and performing factory work maintaining boilers. He wasn’t one to seek attention — he simply showed up, did what needed to be done, and kept moving forward.

From a young age, Frank enjoyed staying active. In his school years, he played football and baseball, and as he grew older, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course, specifically at Hillman’s Golf Land in Elmwood Park. He loved fishing, days at the beach, and had a deep interest in Civil War history. Music was always close to his heart, especially doo-wop favorites like The Drifters, The Platters, and Dion & The Belmonts, along with classic rock songs by the Eagles. He enjoyed relaxing with classic sitcoms and was an avid horror movie and sci-fi movie buff.

Frank was also a devoted sports fan, enjoying professional and college football, baseball, hockey, boxing, and auto racing — especially the Indianapolis 500 and Formula 1. One of his favorite pastimes was simply sitting outside at home, feeding the squirrels, taking in the fresh air, and enjoying the peace of the moment.

Frank shared 30 loving years with his devoted longtime girlfriend, Maryann Perone and her mother Mary. She stood by his side and shared a life filled with companionship, routines, caring for one another, and memories that will be cherished forever. Mary was there for Frank and was a guiding light in his life.

Frank is survived by his sister, Claudia Ruff, and his brothers, Greg Ruff and his wife Cynthia, and Robert Ruff and his wife Tanya. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews: April Spano; Shaun Matriss and his wife Lisa; Andrea Schmelzer and her husband Steve; Christopher Ruff and his wife Anne; and Leilani Ruff. He will also be fondly remembered by extended family and friends.

Frank will be remembered for his steady presence, his quiet nature, and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
