Marcia Lorraine Shields Griffin died November 9, 2023. Marcia was born to Nellie Mae Shields and Richard Jacob Shields in Neptune, NJ on June 10, 1954. She spent her young years in Pogollaville, a section of Englishtown, NJ. Later she started her elementary education at Court Street School in Freehold, NJ, later moving to Toms River from 5th grade, graduating from Toms River North High School. She went on to get her Registered Nurse degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, where she served as President of Student Council. In 1977 she received her commission as an officer in the United States Navy as an Ensign and ended her tour of duty with an early promotion to Lieutenant. She served in a variety of positions and fields of nursing during her years of nursing. She had a love for public health nursing and retired from the Ocean County Health Department after 25 years of outstanding service. Marcia was one of the family historians and found members of her family dating back to 1817. She loved genealogy. She loved family and most of all she loved the Lord. She received Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Goodman at the age of 10 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Lakewood, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents Nellie & Richard Shields and sister Beatrice Rivera. She leaves to mourn her, her loving and dedicated husband Dewitt Griffin of 28 years, 2 daughters Amber Rainey (Fredrick) of NC, Kirstin Council of NJ, 2 granddaughters Illiana Rainey, Deja Goudeaux (Nehemiah), 1 grandson Devon Clark of NY, 1 great-granddaughter Genesis Goudeaux, 2 goddaughters Stella Delosantos and Aisha Matthews, 4 stepdaughters Yolanda Fox, Lisa McDuffie, Cynthia Clark (Dwayne) of California, Carol Ackerman of Oregon and my longtime friend Kathy Nixon, also to all the volunteers at the foodbank and hot meal programs, Kesia Marshall spiritual daughter, also to mourn, 2 brothers William Crippen of Toms River, and George Crippen (Christine). Visitation 10am with a religious service at 12pm on Saturday November 18, 2023, at Calvary Lighthouse, 1133 E. Countyline Rd., Lakewood. Interment with Military Honors Monday November 20, 2023 at 11:30am, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
