Iris M. Mercado, 88, of Greenbriar Woodlands, Toms River, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, at home. Iris was born in Manhattan, NY, and resided in Brooklyn, NY, and Union Twp., NJ before moving to Toms River in 2005.

Iris was a member of First United Methodist Church of Toms River. Iris was a talented seamstress specializing in clothing alterations, including making beautiful wedding dresses. Iris was also a member of a stretch-n-tone exercise program and women’s group at Greenbriar Woodlands.

Iris was predeceased by her brother, Ruben Class, and her sister, Lilian Whinn. Iris is survived by her loving and devoted husband Louis of nearly 70 years, her sons David Mercado and his wife, Colleen, of Aberdeen, Luis Mercado, Jr., and his wife, Laura, of Millsboro, DE, her brother Manuel Class of Whiting, her grandchildren David Mercado, Jr., Daniel Mercado, and her great-grandchildren Casey, Tatiana, and Leyla Mercado.

There will be a gathering at the Greenbriar Woodlands clubhouse at a later date.
